London Edinburgh London 3 - 8 August 2025

Around the 3rd to the 8th of August, you may have seen a lot of cyclists from all over the world in and around Horncastle. Around 2500 cyclists departed London hoping to reach Edinburgh, then ride all the way back again. London Edinburgh London (LEL) is a 1530 kilometres (950 miles) self-supported cycle ride across the United Kingdom. The route takes you between the iconic capital cities of England and Scotland.

London Edinburgh London is not a race, but you have a maximum of around 128 hours to cycle along the route up to Edinburgh and then back to London.

There are 21 control points (at 14 different venues) along the route, as well as lots of support sites like Pedal and Paws.

Here at Pedal and Paws, we volunteered to support the ride, in the best way we can, coffee, cake and somewhere to just rest. We opened as usual on Sunday the 3rd and stayed open through the night, with the last rider leaving us around 8.15am Monday morning.

Sadly, storm Floris had different plans, effectively stopping the ride at Richmond North Yorkshire. Wind speeds of over 80 mph are not good cycling conditions. So, the riders set off back to London and began arriving in Horncastle in the afternoon of Tuesday.

Lots of the riders chose a leisurely ride back stopping off enroute to see the sights that they would have missed otherwise. The last riders popped in on the morning of the 8th.
